I Am (excerpt from "Splendid Isolation")

From the day that you were born

Like a rose to a prickly thorn

I am your beauty, I am your flaw

I am the light that you first saw

I am your anger, I am your doubt

I am the words that come out of your mouth

I am your sorrow, I am your pain

I am the confidence that oft you feign

I am your vanity, I am your id

I am the karma for all you did

I am your redemption, I am your hope

I am the ladder when you run out of rope

I am your breath, I am your fear

I am with you when you're not here

I am the blood that in your veins does flow

I am the hormone that makes you grow

I am your childhood, I am your youth

I am whatever you perceive as truth

I am all you hope one day you'll be

I am everything that you choose to see

I am as familiar to you as your own face

I am the intersection of time and space

Ask yourself, who I may be?

Perhaps I am you, and you are me
