Raag N Roll
Oldie Goldies
Here are some covers I have recorded of old Indian songs
Sanware Salone Aaye Din Bahar Ke
This melodious song is from the movie "Ek Hi Raasta" which came out in 1956! The song was sung by Hemant Kumar. This is the first song I ever learned how to play on the keyboard. All the music for this version was generated in Garage Band. Specifically, I recorded and mixed four tracks - a piano, an acoustic guitar, an electric guitar and the drums. I also played the melody on a grand piano within Garage Band.
Mera Naam Chin Chin Chu
This lovely tune is from the movie "Howrah Bridge" which came out in 1958! It is the second song I learned on the keyboard. I played this version on my Yamaha keyboard and recorded it in Garage Band.
Dhitang Dhitang Bole
This Bengali folk song was very popular in the mid 1950s. My father learned to sing this song during his undergraduate years at IIT Kharagpur. Since he loved this song so much, it is very dear to my heart. I played this version on my Takamine acoustic guitar and mixed the guitar track and multiple vocal tracks in Garage Band.
Kisi Ki Muskurahaton Pe Ho Nisar
This song is from the 1959 movie "Anari" starring Raj Kapoor. The music is by Shankar Jaikishen and the original song was sung by Mukesh. All the music in this version was generated and recorded by me in Garage Band.
Meri Bheegi Bheegi Si
This song is from the 1973 movie "Anamika" starring Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bhaduri. The music is by R.D. Burman. All the music in this version was generated in Garage Band.
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
While not quite an oldie goldie like the rest, this song can hardly be called contemporary. It is from the 1998 movie "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherji. There is an unforgettable scene in this movie where Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are standing in the rain. He asks her to dance and she says "there's no music." Shah Rukh begans to play piano with his fingers and this tune plays. I played this version on my Yamaha keyboard.
